The Discovering Montessori online paraprofessional preparation course offered by Seton Montessori Institute is designed to serve the needs of assistant teachers in Montessori classrooms, as well as others who are looking for a deeper dive into Montessori education without engaging in full teacher certification (i.e., new administrative staff, specialists and parents). Introducing the basics of the Montessori approach, course participants will increase their understanding and strengthen their effectiveness in working with children through Seton’s Paraprofessional Courses. For some, this course has been a stepping stone in deciding to pursue full teaching certification. 

Classes meet via Zoom every Monday and Wednesday from January 12 through 28, 2026, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. CT.

Course Information

The course will include 12 hours of live online sessions plus 10 hours of asynchronous work hosted through our Learning Management System, Canvas.

A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to all students that fully attend the live sessions and complete all assignments. The Certificate of Completion is equivalent to 22 hours of continuing professional development (CPD) on the topic of Montessori education. This certificate is often recognized when working as an assistant in a Montessori classroom.

Students who attend the sessions but do not fully complete the course, including submitting all assignments, will receive a record of continuing professional development (CPD) equivalent to 12 hours on the topic of Montessori education.

For those participants working in Illinois, Seton Montessori Institute is also recognized as a Gateways Registry Authorized Entity that delivers professional development to those serving young children. Registration Deadline is Wednesday, January 7, 2026. Enrollment is based on availability. All enrollment after this date will be assessed a $25 late fee. 

The registration fee of $10 is non-refundable. A refund of $340 will be given if cancellation is received on or before January 7, 2026. Withdrawals received after January 7, 2026, will receive a refund of 50% of the course cost, less the registration fee. There will be no refunds for withdrawal requests received after the start of the first class on January 12, 2026. Seton Montessori Institute is not responsible for other financial obligations incurred by participants.
