Sidewalk’s End Montessori is looking for a teacher interested in continuous growth while providing the children a nurturing, safe, and peaceful learning environment where self- concepts are enhanced, independence encouraged and individuality respected.

Sidewalk's End is an independently owned, teacher-operated school for 3 - 6 year olds in beautiful Colorado Springs, Colorado. At Sidewalk’s End, our vision is to provide an excellent, authentic Montessori education. Lead Teacher
Purpose:
To provide a warm, nurturing, safe, loving and peaceful Montessori environment where self- concepts are enhanced, independence encouraged, and individuality respected.
Key Responsibilities:
To offer a program that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual, social and spiritual needs of both the individual and the group and is in accordance with the school's philosophy and policies.
To interact with the children and to encourage their involvement in activities.
To prepare a warm and safe environment that is orderly, clean and appealing and permits the child to grow and to explore.
To incorporate ideas/suggestions of other staff members, if possible, to plan a curriculum outline.
To supervise, train and evaluate staff
To establish and maintain good communications with parents through parent conferences at least once a year or as needed and on a daily informal basis.
To observe, record and report significant individual and group behavior.
To treat each child with dignity and respect.
To use appropriate and positive discipline and to train staff so that discipline is consistent.
To demonstrate ability to determine when enrolled children may need special medical or psychological help.
To keep staff informed of program goals and developments both with children, parents and administration.
To attend and to help plan staff meetings.
To prepare materials needed in the program.
To comply with all guidelines set forth in the Employee Handbook.
To assist in hiring staff members.
To assist in evaluating staff members.

Reporting Relationships:
Reports to the Administrative Staff regarding children, parents, program, and staff matters.

Limits of Authority:
May take action without informing Administration:
assign staff responsibilities within program
change a scheduled daily activity
discipline a child
discuss child's activity with parent


May take action but must inform Administration:
inform parents about sick children
change curriculum for program
leave building with children

Must have prior consent from Administration:
remove a staff member
ordering new equipment
take time off
refer parent to outside resources
change shift hours of staff or self

Qualifications:
Montessori Preprimary Teacher certification.
A minimum of 2 school years experience in a Montessori preschool environment
“Director Qualified” according to the State of Colorado Social Services Regulations.
Demonstrate high personal integrity.
Evidence of emotional maturity and stability.
Sensitivity to the individual needs of parents and staff.
Knowledge of children's physical, emotional and developmental patterns.
Evidence of sufficient security and judgment to handle crisis situations and to use supervision constructively.
Physical stamina - must be able to lift a child of 40 pounds.
Ability to create an atmosphere of positive and appropriate discipline.
Ability to recognize and to record significant individual and group behavior.
Ability to supervise assistants, interns and aides.
Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children.
Knowledge of general learning skills and curriculum development alternatives.
Demonstrated professional skills in curriculum planning, in-service staff training, program goal setting and establishing procedures for evaluation of the progress of individual children.
Demonstrated ability to develop new and imaginative programs within the field of early childhood education.
Demonstrate ability to determine when enrolled children may need special medical or psychological help.
Ability to delegate authority judiciously.
Articulate in making prepared and spontaneous talks.

Time Commitment:
As agreed upon in the employment contract and the School's needs.
