Position Summary
Lake Country Montessori is seeking a Montessori Classroom Assistant (With an opportunity to train to be our next Lead Guide) to join our Children’s House community. This role works alongside our Lead Children’s House Guide, supporting the daily life of the classroom while developing the skills and experience needed to transition into the Lead Guide role eventually.
The ideal candidate is warm, observant, collaborative, and passionate about the Montessori philosophy. This position is an excellent opportunity for someone who has Montessori training or is actively working toward certification.

Primary Responsibilities
Classroom Support & Child Development
Assist and learn from the Lead Children’s House Guide, supporting the Montessori work cycle and classroom flow.
Maintain a peaceful, orderly, and beautifully prepared environment consistent with Montessori principles.
Observe children and assist in a manner that fosters confidence, independence, and respectful behavior.
Support children’s emotional and social development by modeling grace, courtesy, respect, and empathy.
Guide children in health and personal habits such as handwashing, toileting, eating, resting, and dressing.
Read to children and support art, gardening, practical life skills, music, and movement activities.
Prepared Environment & Classroom Maintenance
Assist with preparing and serving snacks, setting up lunch routines, and creating a calm rest-time environment.
Perform light housekeeping duties including cleaning materials, dishwashing, changing linens, organizing shelves, and sanitizing frequently used items.
Help maintain outdoor spaces and lead outdoor activities in all seasons.
Organize and store classroom materials to ensure a consistent Montessori environment.
Recordkeeping & Communication
Support basic recordkeeping and observation documentation as needed.
Maintain confidentiality and exercise tact, professionalism, and discretion at all times.
Communicate effectively with the Lead Guide, school staff, and parents.
Lead-Guide-in-Training Responsibilities
Participate in mentorship and professional development designed to prepare for the Lead Guide role.
Practice lesson presentations, deepen observation skills, and develop classroom leadership.
Learn Montessori recordkeeping systems, curriculum planning, and family communication.
Demonstrate a growth mindset and readiness to assume increasing responsibility within the classroom.
Complete all necessary education and certifications.

Qualifications
Required
Montessori training (AMI or AMS 3–6 credential preferred; currently enrolled or soon enrolling will also be considered, but training must be completed before moving into the Lead Guide Role).
Experience working with young children, ideally in a Montessori environment.
Warm, friendly, and nurturing personality with the ability to relate well to children.
Ability to follow the Montessori philosophy and classroom expectations.
High school diploma required; some early childhood coursework preferred.
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality, follow instructions precisely, and uphold a consistent schedule.
Commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful, child-centered classroom community.
Preferred
Montessori certification (AMI/AMS 3–6) or willingness to pursue it in the short term.
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
Experience in a Montessori environment or familiarity with the Montessori method.
Classroom experience as a Children’s House assistant or guide.
Familiarity with positive behavior support aligned with Montessori philosophy.
Interest in long-term professional growth within the school.

Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
Frequent bending, stretching, and stooping.
Ability to sit on the floor and move easily around the classroom.
Visual and hearing capacity required for supervision per licensing standards.
Ability to lead outdoor activities in all seasons.
Perform light-duty cleaning and sanitation tasks.
